Search code

The Parodia search engine is one of the most sophisticated script-based searches there is. It incorporates job status, industry and location filters with keyword relevance text search. Parodia also includes a "power search", giving job seekers even more choice over results.

First, prepositions and general terms like 'job' are removed from the search. Parodia allows the site owner to specify such terms for each language running on the site. So for example, a job site specialising in medical jobs may choose to ignore keywords like "medical", "health" etc.

Next the text is broken up into its component words. Any commonly used separators like spaces, commas or semicolons can be used in any combination to separate the words.

Next, each record is scored for relevance based on a number of rules. These rules include where the keyword appears, its frequency and whether or not it occurs free-standing or as part of another word. The result is an intuitive and simple-to-use search that produces great results with a graphical scale - searching like this is vital on sites with hundreds or thousands of jobs.

Results listings and applications

Search results are displayed 5 (or such other specified value that the site owner configures) per page with a job summary and 'read more/apply' link. Each page will have next, previous and direct page links at the foot if the results span more than one page. Applications are made directly through the site, the candidate need not be logged in, but if they are, they will see a list of their CVs on the system enabling them to easily select which one to use for which job application.

Candidates

Candidates can create as many CVs as they like. For each CV, they can opt whether or not to make this information available to recruiters from either recruitment agencies, employers, or both/neither. Candidates can either copy and paste a CV into the system, or upload a Word Doc, HTML or .TXT version of their CV.

If the Parodia is also running the optional mail agent then candidates can also save multiple search profiles, which will be executed daily by the mail agent, and matching jobs sent to the candidate by email.

Hot jobs

Candidates can use the 'hot jobs' feature to bookmark job openings that they wish to come back to. They can also apply to any combination of bookmarked jobs in one go.

Featured agencies

Each agency that uses the system can have their logo displayed on the 'featured agencies' page. Furthermore, each logo links through to a page containing a full profile of the agency.
